Thorn Pass is back working as well as ever and could go a big race fresh at Wanganui on Saturday judging by his final gallop at Awapuni this morning.

Fast work was held on thre heavy No 1 grass and on the plough (good).

Thorn Pass (r85 1340m), who has had just three races in the last 17 months, used the No 1 grass and had stablemate Almo Street for a partner over 800m in 52.8, the last 600 in 38.3. Almo Street (by Alamosa), has chalked up one win from four starts so far and won a trial at Waverley three weeks ago in his build-up for a new campaign. Ringo rounded off his preparation for the weight-for-age mile on Saturday with a solid workout with stablemate Prosecco (r75 1200m) over 800m in 51.5, the last 600 in 39 even, while Lastrollofthedice (r65 1340m) and Roc 'N' It (r65 2040m) came up with 52.2 and 39.4. Wanganui Cup prospects China Star and Captain Lincoln were paired over 800m in 52.5, the last 600 in 39.5, while Lincoln's Sunset (r65 1340m) and Last Chance (r75 1200m) took 53 even and 39.4. The Great Guru (r65 2040m) and Lincoln Bay were almost identical with 53 even and 39.7. Charming Choux, who will have blinkers added for the maiden 1340m, and Itsagem (r85 1340m) matched strides over 800m in 52.4, getting along at a good clip early, but easing to run the last 600 in 40.1. Master Platinum (r75 1200m) did not look at home in the ground when running 800m in 56.4, the last 600 in 42.5.

On the plough, Lucy Tanner's four-year-old Tavistock gelding and a St Reims filly trained by Gail Temperton skipped over 1000m in 1.5.6, the last 600 in 37.8, while Glengoyne and a Road To Rock gelding stablemate sprinted 600m in 37 even. An Alamosa gelding and an Any Suggestion gelding, two more from the Breslin barn, clocked 37 even as well. Soiree and a Rock 'n' Pop filly stablemate covered 1000m in 1.9.9, the last 600 in 39.6, and Ollie's Note, who has not raced since the spring, posted 1.11.8 and 41.2. Last-start winner and Castletown Stakes chance Allure and a Perfectly Ready filly sprinted 600m in 42 even. Kings Kite worked over 1400m, being timed from the 1200m in 1.27.2, the last 600 in 43.1, and Tiffany's, a double acceptor at Wanganui, was not after time over 1000m in 1.19.8, the last 600 in 44.1. Fibonacci (r75 1200m) was kept to a quiet 800m, the last 600 in 44.2.
