One the TV missed: Hidden footage reveals Aussies F1 genius in big karambas move

Australian F1 star Oscar Piastri has posted footage of an incredibly gutsy overtake he performed during the Monaco Grand Prix as he finished in the points for the second time this season.

It is unclear what lap Piastri performed the overtake on, but it took place in a spot on the fabled track where rarely anyone would conduct such a move.

The Aussie was overtaken by an AlphaTauri car on his outside as the rest of the pack briefly pulled ahead.

However, the Victorian quickly regained the place when he moved to the outside in a narrow part of the track but somehow managed to squeeze past the car.

At the time, Piastri was going as fast as 128km/h when performing the overtake.

Piastri then slotted back in behind McLaren teammate Lando Norris as the race continued.

It’s all the more remarkable given Monaco is a notoriously difficult track to overtake on.

The Australian star was evidently chuffed with the move and shared it to his 320,000-strong Twitter fanbase with the caption: “One that the TV missed”.

There was plenty of reaction from F1 fans, with many in disbelief at how Piastri managed to pull off the move.

Alpine ESports ambassador Thom Brouwer wrote: “That one took some big karambas.”

F1 social media presence Tom McCluskey added: “Sneaky.”

Piastri went on to finish an impressive 10th in Monaco, marking his second pointscoring haul from six races this season.
